Bowel Surgery Injuries Claim Settled for £135,000

  • Posted on

A man who was left with lifelong injuries after undergoing bowel surgery has achieved a settlement of his claim against the NHS trust responsible for his care.

After initially undergoing surgery to remove a polyp, he experienced frequent bowel movements resulting in severe weight loss. His condition deteriorated, and he developed sepsis and had to undergo emergency surgery for a bowel perforation. He subsequently underwent further surgery but, although this led to some improvement in his condition, he will never fully recover.

He has found it difficult to adapt to his ongoing symptoms and has been unable to return to his former work as a personal trainer. Previously a sociable man who was very involved in his community, his symptoms caused him to withdraw from activities he used to enjoy and he has only recently begun to return to them.

After he commenced a personal injury claim, the NHS trust responsible for his care denied liability for the complications arising from the surgery. However, negotiations led to a settlement of £135,000 being reached. This will help to compensate him for his loss of income and the pain and suffering he has endured.
