Failure to diagnose scaphoid fracture
£2,500
The Facts
Our client fell awkwardly on her hand when playing sports. She attended her GP who referred her to hospital for x-rays to be undertaken to rule out an injury to the scaphoid bone. X-rays were taken; she was diagnosed with a sprain and sent home.
Our client’s symptoms of pain in her wrist continued, and she therefore attended hospital again some weeks later. This time she was diagnosed with a fracture of her left scaphoid. Her wrist was put in a cast for 6 weeks and the fracture healed well.
Result
The hospital admitted liability in respect of the delay in diagnosis of the scaphoid fracture and subsequent treatment, and the case was settled out-of-court for £2,500.
